Navigate to Contact’s Address

67

Now Implemented!

Description

Similar to how your contacts’ phone numbers are imported from your phone for easy access in the car, it would be useful to have your contacts’ addresses imported into the navigation system. They could then be selected as a destination (as a tab under “places”), or better yet via voice command, for example “navigate to John Smith’s home address” or “directions to dentist”.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

None.

Status

Implemented around 6.0 or older by using the phone/contacts list. A navigate to button appears for the contact.

You should be able to speak "Navigate to 'John Smith'" and it should show any matching contacts in your contact list above any map search results.... basic stuff, get if fixed.

No, it doesn't, at least not for my car over multiple software updates and numerous trials. If you say "Call X" it searches your phone's contacts for a match to call first before searching the web. If you say "Navigate to Y" it only searches google maps, it does not search your address book. If the contact you are navigating to is also in google maps, like a business, it will work but not because of your contacts, because of Google maps.

The MS already does this.  Navigate to (someone or some business name) will automatically start the navigation unless you have  two addresses (business/home) in the contact.

Having to initiate navigation through the phone app rather than the navigation app, and not being able to use voice recognition for directions to a contact in the expected manner are more than small issues when it comes to usability while driving. The current setup is not intuitive, and therefore should be fixed.

It does this already. The only surprise is that you have to go to the phone app, not the nav app. There you can pick your contact, and if it has an address you can tap it to start navigation.

I think this suggestion can be closed.

Yes, I actually ASSUMED it did this, but it only brings up a contact when you want to call it.
