Nav: Avoid Highways/Toll Roads/Hateful Places/U-Turns

Depending on the nav system you are coming from, you probably have one or more of these. I often find myself “taking a long way” but wanting a reminder at certain points. I’d like to say “avoid highways” as a hint to the nav system to stop directing me back to the freeway. Some people are not fond of toll roads. This is a pretty standard avoidance in nav systems. U-Turns are really the easiest improvement and stupidest sounding if you don’t fix them. You know — “when possible make a legal U-turn.”

Finally, hateful places. There are places where every single nav system gives me a direction that is simply wrong because it computes quicker (by milliseconds, I’m sure). But we can do better. Geofencing would allow us to exclude entire areas, and marking off segments would precisely tell the system which turns not to recommend.

Implemented in many other nav systems.  Most of this is currently available on Google Maps.

Status

Tesla now has two new options in 8.0 to avoid toll roads and ferries. While not everything asked for (i.e. hateful places), it handles most of what owners want.
