Backup Camera Guidelines

281

Now Implemented!

Description

When the rear camera is active, overlay guidelines to help with backing up and object avoidance. Use different color guidelines to help indicate how close objects are to the rear bumper.

Should include an option to show and hide the guidelines.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

Our guess is about 30% of the backup camera systems include guidelines. For vehicles with parking sensors, guidelines are less important.

Status

While we heard it wasn’t possible, Tesla came through with the v6.1 update, which now has camera guidelines!

Model X in v8.0 displays distance from the sonar sensors.

It is Always an estimate depending on the tilt of the road and other angles. Maybe it Can be more accurate than with other cars since the tesla has à bunch of sensors. But usually, each gradation is 50cm more than the previous one, depending on the model.

My old Prius and current Lexus have X-shaped lines to guide you into parking spaces (and around corners) that I find infinitely more useful than the two parallel lines option, which I've never found a use for.

Unless I'm mistaken, this is the most wanted feature in TeslaTap history.

Agree this feature is a must. I have it on my Infiniti and Honda. It's a simple software feature and should not be lacking on a luxury car like a Tesla.

Many cars have the guidelines curve to show the actual curved path as the steering wheel is turned, this is much more helpful than always-straight lines. It makes parking back-in a snap, as we often find ourselves doing at charging stations.

Absolutely need the guidance marks. Hoping it would show up in one of the software updates.

Just be sure that the lines only appear when the car is put in Reverse.  I like to switch to the rear camera when driving once in a while and the lines would be annoying in that context.

I don't use the backup camera when parking until the very end because I use the side mirrors to accomplish this goal. I would much prefer to use the guidelines on the single screen, since I will park in places not always painted with stripes.

Not that hard to solve by a software update.

I have heard that this will be in a future software update.

Has to be an easy software upgrade...

My LEAF has this, and they turn with the steering wheel to show you where the car will go.  The software can't be hard as long as the hardware has the ability to overlay CGI on top of the video from the camera.
