Turn Signal Volume Adjust

58

Description

Offer an option to adjust the volume of the turn signal sounds.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

Sounds can be masked by music volume. Larger indicator arrows would also be a plus!

Moderator – Others have also asked for reduced volume as they think it is too loud. Like so many things, there are some regulations in the USA that control the turn signal duration and sound. It can perhaps be modified, but it is unclear how much.

I am getting older, as all of us do.  I find the turn signal indicator lights are too small on  the dash, there is room to make them larger.  Also, many males are red/green color blind, so avoid using red and green lights on the dashboard, many times blue lights are more effective and much easier to read at night.

I am old and losing my hearing.  Please do not forget you will be old too.  I need the loud ticking noise or I will forget to turn signals off.   Maybe volume adjust?

I really like the idea of increasing volume, with silence for the first 3 blinks.

FYI, we have a 2017 MX and 2018 MS and the 2018 sound from the turn signals being on is louder and different. I think it's just a different relay noise.

Perhaps a soft sound at first, then gets bolder once the car has gone a specific distance, or it has been on for several minutes?

prevent the case of people driving all the way to work with their turn signal on.

I am 74 years young, We are driving our 2nd Tesla. We simply love them. Remember old people drive too. Please make the turn signal circle indicators on the instrument display in front of steering wheel larger so they are easier to find and identify blinking. Sometimes you only have a fraction of a second to glimpse for safety reasons.

I once had a Saab 9-3 that ran the turn signal sound through the speakers.

Some people with misophonia may experience the repeated clicking sound as extremely irritating. This goes as far as never using the turn signal.

If legally possible, please make the sound selectable from a menu or uploadable as mp3 by the user. Also please make the volume adjustable.

There are more people with misophonia than you think.

The reason you see cars cruising down the freeway with their turn signals blinking continuously is purely because the audible indicator is not loud enough for the driver to hear. It's always amazed me that the volume of that clicker isn't fully adjustable. The sensitivity of drivers' ears is quite variable. An auto maker wouldn't make a radio with a single, fixed volume or a non-adjustable nav voice or even control-panel lighting that doesn't have adjustable intensity. This feature is long overdue.

A further thought on this. The clicker is placed very close to the phone mic. It is very disruptive on conference calls etc. Why not inject noise cancelling into the audio stream?

Very much agree that the turn signal indicators on the instrument display should be larger.

Would also suggest that a turn signal left on for more than XX minutes or YY miles of travel would either:

  • automatically turn-off

-or-

  • get audibly louder

  • and/or change tone

to remind you that it's been left engaged...

No Tesla should ever be driving down the road with a perpetual turn signal engaged due to driver error!

Either I've grown accustomed to the turn signal sound or Tesla has modified it over time.  As new owners my wife and I shot each other looks each time we activated the turn signals along the lines of 'why is it so loud and sharp sounding'. Over the many decades of driving and car ownership I've heard plenty of turn signals.  Some have been pleasant and unobtrusive while others have been annoying and loud.  The Tesla Model S seems to fall somewhere in the middle.  In the past the sound was generated due to a relay switch but modern automobiles like the Tesla should be using a solid state device which means the sound should be customizable.  While not a high priority this is something Tesla could improve. The visual aspect of an activated turn signal / emergency signal could also be made larger especially since its appearance is transient or at least is supposed to be.

A little fortuitous web searching resulted in this great history lesson on the automotive turn signal.
