Directional Obstacle Parking Alerts

by PeeB

Description

Have audible alerts emanate from approximately the direction of the obstacle(s) when parking.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

I’ve had a scenario where I was reversing alongside a wall, causing the proximity alert to sound (and display). I had to ignore this sound as I was aware of the wall and moving parallel to it, so it wasn’t a problem. As I reversed further and approached an obstacle behind the car there was no change of the audible alert and I hit it!

Reduce Music Level in Reverse

by Jozzra

Description

Add a user option to reduce the volume of music/audio when reverse is selected, similar to when a door is opened.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

Even better if the user could choose the amount of audio reduction from 0 to 100%.

This feature would make it easier to hear the parking sound, surroundings and may increase safety.

Uphill Auto Brake

by Wilbur

Description

When in drive and car is stopped on an uphill (as at a light or stop sign), do not allow car to roll back – even if brake not pushed sufficiently to activate “Hill Hold”.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

Without such an automatic hill hold it is possible for  car to roll back and overrun pedestrians or hit another vehicle, as occurs with all vehicles today.

Wireless Rear Trailer Camera

by EricZ

Description

Offer an attachable wireless rear trailer camera that can be viewed on the main display, or connect with one of the several third-party wireless rear view cameras.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

There are radio/WiFi cameras one can put on a trailer which are really useful when reversing. Unfortunately there is no way to see this on the car’s display. You have to use a tablet or phone instead.

Description

In the current implementation, reversing lights in the Model S do the job to warn traffic from behind. They do almost nothing to light up the area behind the car to let the driver see where s/he is going. This is particularly true for the European version where there is only one reversing light (the corresponding space on the other side is occupied by the mandatory rear fog light).

This is a shame b/c it renders the wonderful HD backup camera almost unusable in dark situations.

The problem is exacerbated by another issue that has been filed separately: Disable mirror darkening in reverse

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

The new Mercedes S class seems to have found a novel (and surprisingly obvious) solution for this problem: There the reversing lights are implemented as a band of LEDs that are integrated into the rear diffuser, i.e., low and center. I did not yet have an opportunity to see for myself, but it sure looks like this configuration could adequately illuminate the area behind the car.

Disable mirror darkening in reverse

by cra

Description

Several users have reported problems with darkened review mirror when backing up in a dark environment. Typically backing into/out of their driveway when lamps are disturbing the mirror causes it to be hard to see what’s going on around the car. An option to disabling the darkening of the mirror while backing up should be part of the settings.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

Turning the fog light on while backing up might also improve visibility, since the one light currently used is a bit weak.  (Not sure why the front fog lights can help rear view visibility – Editor).
