Autopilot Speed Improvement on Curves

29

Now Implemented!

Description

When no cars are in front going around a curve, speed up to the speed limit a bit sooner before coming out of the curve. This might be done with mapping data and/or camera information.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

None.

Status

This has improved quite a bit over the last 3 years.  While perhaps not perfect, it’s quite good in most situations in mid-2021.  We’re going to consider this implemented.

Unlike rsaSWFL, our M3 slows down random amounts when going around a corner or negotiating a curve.  This is really annoying.  We'd be happier if the car would go at the speed set by the driver.  If I want it to slow down, I'll tell it by touching the brake pedal.

M3 does not slow in TACC when going around a sharp curve like a round-about.  We have to disengage cruise control in these situations.

I think this has been implemented as of 18.21.x or even earlier

Some thoughts:

1. The car can also recognize curve speed signs, after speed limit recognition is available.

2. Can allow user to set an offset of the curve speed, like the speed limit offset.

And recuperate / reduce speed before any curve by using MAP and camera!
