This provides a more effective way of remotely pre-heating the battery instead of charging if the car is already at 90% charge.  It allows the owner to eliminate restricted regen on cold days before they drive.  Having full regen immediately on cold days improves safety by more immediate “throttle” control and improves range with a warmer battery – something the performance cars need!

Any time the car is connected to a charger, it can be useful for the user to guarantee the battery’s proper temperature.
Why limit this to Ludicrous mode on Performance models? My non-performance AWD Model 3 gets dreadful energy efficiency (360+ Wh/mi) while the batteries are cold. I would love to be able to pre-warm the batteries while the car is connected to the charger without actually charging the batteries any further.
This would be very important when you start driving from an high elevation site and for a long time to avoid riding on brakes and even overheat brakes. Very often, in case of long distance driving downhill, the preheat is not enough because it cools down rapidly and the battery temperature must be maintained by the system.  I experience this problem very often having a residence at 2200 meters, even in summer.
