Allow using the key FOB to open the charge port.

Model S is designed to open the charge port with a button press on the charge plug. This is very elegant and works well most of the time when using Tesla equipment.

The typical public charging station in Europe either has a Type 2 cable attached or requires a “simple” Type 2 cable. Tesla does not sell those (let alone provide one with the car) and refers to third parties for this crucial piece of equipment.

Third-party cables are “dumb”, they don’t know Tesla and they don’t offer a charge port button. Effectively, when on the road in Europe (while SuperChargers are not yet available everywhere) the touch screen is the only means to open the charge port.

This is not sufficient, a way to open the charge port from outside the car is needed. This could be achieved by way of some key fob click code (triple-click the hatch or some such).

Status

This feature was added to v6 (2.0.27) software in late 2014 and officially announced in v6.1. Press and hold the trunk release button on the FOB to release the charge port door.

I sugets that they auto unlock the charger of full when you unlock the car so when you come near the car and the door handle extends (car open) the charger also unlock (valhalla)


I disagree. I think that is a bad idea. You certainly do not want to interrupt charging simply because you forgot your umbrella or your purse in the car. At a typical public charging station, the charging session ends when the car unlocks the charge port. You'd have to unplug the cable, authorize with the charging stati0n again (RFID card or app), and then plug in the cable again, only to continue charging.


Long story short: The charge port must only unlock upon explicit user request. It needs a dedicated UI of sorts.

Yes, the app has it. But it's way too slow. I takes a long time every time to even connect to the car. That's why: Yes! I would very much like to have this feature. could be that you simply touch the port door and it opens - provided the doors are unlocked

While the app has the function to open the charge port, I would love to see this available on the FOB. Maybe by pressing the trunk button twice?
