Music Cover Art Control

63

Now Implemented!

Description

When using the USB for music (and possibly other sources) include a setting on where to first get the music cover art – via CDDB over cellular (the current method) or from the USB drive. I find the CDDB to be inaccurate about 20% of the time, and I already have all the cover art on the USB drive which is accurate. When the option is selected, it would try to get the cover art first from the directory where the song is stored (i.e. USB drive), and if fails, then attempt to get it from the CDDB database. If the option is unchecked, then attempt to get it via the CDDB database and if it fails, attempt to get it from the media.

In addition, it would be great if a tap on the cover art displayed would switch between the CDDB and local cover art (when both are available), and remember the last selected cover art for the future.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

No competitive feature. CDDB by Gracenote, while quite extensive, does not provide any means to correct their errors, and a major know problem with CDDB is a total lack of any cover art for collections.

2016 Update: Getting artwork from the USB would also be much faster and reduce the cellular bandwidth needs.

Status

Local cover art is now supported in v8.0 software.

Better yet:   default to the encoded cover art in the song, and if not available, THEN try to pull from the net.  Tesla, this might save a lot of $ in 3G data charges... :)
