Description
Change the glass transparency at the touch of a button.
Competitive/Pricing/Notes
The technology consists of two pieces of glass with a film between them called a matrix polymer. Within the polymer are oblong-shaped nanoparticles that line up in a uniform pattern when a small electrical current is applied. This allows light to pass through nearly uninhibited. When the electrical current is turned off, the particles spread out randomly, blocking up to 80 percent of the sun’s rays. In effect, the roof goes from nearly transparent to a dark blue tint at the push of a button.
The 2013 Mercedes-Benz SLK-Class SLK250 Roadster offers this option called “Magic Sky” on the skylight for an additional $2000 over the cost of the skylight.
