Anyone know why this can't be implemented for early production cars without the auto-pilot software?  Almost all aftermarket GPS systems and both Apple and Google maps do this so the data obviously exists.  It should be simple to add this display to the navigation/map screen - preferable at all times, not just when actively navigating the way Apple does it.

Indeed, I even consider this not implemented by the current quality. Valid points that user rijder makes.

Unfortunately, the speed limits are not working properly in the Netherlands for:

- variable speed limits (different speed between 06:00 - 19:00 and rest of the day on A2 e.g.)

- reduced speed limits near long term road works (Utrecht Central Station e.g.)

- speed limits om matrix boards over the highways during traffic jams or accidents

- temporarily adjusted speeds (in case of peak hours, some places signs get mechanically altered from 100 km/h to 80 km/h near Houten e.g.)

Speed limits available in OpenStreetMap are much more up to date and more detailed. Also, most countries offer official open APIs to query temporary changes. These could also be used.

What is a good way to pass this on to Tesla?

I wonder whether this also could sense "road narrowing", "lane ends" and other signs and alert the driver.

Ideally, the information should not (only) come from a database but should be supplemented by a camera reading the actual road signs. That's how BMW does it and it makes a difference, e.g., in construction areas and on roads with dynamic traffic control (speed limit changes depending on traffic and other conditions). Also, databases tend to be outdated.

I heard this was awaiting implementation by Google.
