Charging Based on Home Solar

0

Description

While those with Tesla Solar can set charging to the solar available, offer a similar service for third-party solar systems.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

Charge HQ offers controlled charging of Tesla-based upon excess solar generation. There should be a similar feature for the most common non-Tesla inverters.

Moderator:
There are so many inverters made this is far from a trivial task as there are no standards for communications and protocols.  Often this information is tightly held by the inverter manufacturer and such data is not made public. Ideally, the inverter vendor should connect to the Tesla public APIs to offer this feature.

The moderator is accurate, the support for third-party inverters is hard.  However, using Tesla Gateways, the Tesla app and car can do this already. I personally have a non-Tesla solar and inverter, and use the Tesla Powerwall and Gateway, and my Tesla App can do exactly what the original poster is asking now. Its callled the Charge On Solar feature, here: https://www.tesla.com/support/tesla-app/charge-on-solar

However - its not implemented as elegantly as ChargeHQ.   The Tesla app will charge the car from the powerwall FIRST, draining it before limiting the car to charge on only excess solar.  The logic of the Tesla app should be adjusted to not pull from the grid AND not pull from the powerwalls to charge the car if there is excess solar.... and then limit the car.   Charge HQ does this perfectly already.
