Description

Offer a thermal camera with intelligent video analytics to warn driver about humans and large animals entering the road. Useful and can save lives in low light conditions and fog. Monitoring on the left side of the instrument panel should be offered in a safety pack together with radar based cruise control and auto-brake.

Competitive/Pricing/Note

Retrofit might be possible. Available on some European premium cars like Audi A6, BMW 5 series, and Volvo V70 (not in USA).  Cost is $2800 on some 2014 A6 models; cost is $1900 on some 2014 BMW 5 models. Both cars includes several other safety options in the package.

I have that feature on my current BMW650. Its just not very useful. Its displayed on the screen rather than the HUD. So you have to watch a screen to see a potential problem. In all but fog the LED headlights are so good as to make this feature unnecessary. It's, however, fun to see where the hot spots are on a car- differentia, tires, radiators etc...
