Set Charge Amps from App

86

Now Implemented!

Description

Allow changing the charge rate limit, in amps, from the phone app as can be done in the car.

Competitive/Pricing/Notes

When charging with the portable charger at work, I can limit the charge rate from 5-13A from inside the car. At work, there can be shared 120V 16A outlets for charging with other cars. If a LEAF is connected to one double outlet I can connect to the second outlet and start a charging at 5A without tripping the circuit breaker. Around lunchtime the LEAF might finish charging, I can even see that in the app, as the voltage goes up due to 10A less current being drawn from that circuit breaker.

With the feature missing from the app, at this point I would have to go back to the car to increase the Tesla charge rate back to 13A.

It would therefore be very convenient if the app allowed for setting the charge rate like you already can inside the car.

Secondary if the app could provide a notification that the voltage increases over a configurable threshold, one could even have the app notify you when the other car charging on the same circuit breaker is finished charging. (maybe this should be a separate feature request).

Status

I took advantage of this feature in my Python script TesSense that takes data from the Sense Energy Monitor API and the Tesla API and sends commands to the car to keep all the charging happening only with free solar:

this is a must have for anyone with Tesla Power solar panels.

this can be controlled with dynamic changing the resistor used in the EVSE
there already exist EVSE that chan change the max AMP when a second car connect to a secondary EVSE that is connected to the same main line

Until the Solar Smart Charging feature request is implemented, this "Setting the Amperage" request is a manual solution to adjusting the charge to the solar system. In addition to the settings from minimum to maximun Amps there could be a "Solar" setting as well dynamically adjusting to the solar surplus production.

This is a highly desirable feature! With dual 3-phase charger the interval is 5-32Amps. Whenever you are at a public/paid charger, it will end the session and cut power to the car when charging finishes. If by means of the App you could turn down the amperage to extend the charging session you could maintain the power connection long enough to preheat the cabin with grid power.

Not a bad convenience feature. When we get a power hit, the car dials down the charging current. One would be able to detect this and dial it back up.
